Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Gettysburg, South Dakota adopted Sister City relations in 1997. The South Dakota town has a population of nearly 1,400 people and was first settled in 1883 by American Civil War Veterans. It was named after Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The town is located in central South Dakota about 60 miles north of the South Dakota Capital at Pierre. This small town is known for great fishing and hunting and was once home to the Sioux Indians.
