Community & Economic Development

Improving Neighborhoods, Businessess and Preservation

The Community and Economic Development Department collaborates with, coordinates with, and uses the resources of two beneficial organizations to promote the borough's economic development and enhances the quality of life for Gettysburg residents. The organizations used to achieve this mission are Main Street Gettysburg and the Elm Street Program.

To advance Gettysburg's community and economic development objectives, the Borough undertakes a variety of planning, economic, and community development projects, in support of the town's master plan. These projects support the decision-making and actions requested by the Borough Manager, Borough Council, and other departments. Ultimately, the department accomplishes the following work:

  • Improves residential neighborhoods
  • Supports our existing businesses
  • Encourages and recruits new  businesses
  • Promotes historic preservation.

Combined, these objectives promote Gettysburg as a desirable place to live, shop, work, visit, and invest.

The department works closely with other Borough Departments and community stakeholders to ensure comprehensive approaches to community and economic development. The Department pursues and administers federal and state grants to advance Borough objectives.
