Main Street Gettysburg is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation and revitalization of Historic Gettysburg for the benefit of its citizens, businesses, and visitors.
Main Street Gettysburg's Focus
Main Street Gettysburg is the community development and economic arm for the Borough, focused on increasing quality jobs, advocating for and supporting existing businesses and also seeking opportunities for business growth. For example, the ten year Interpretive Plan (2000-2010) focused on revitalizing historic anchor buildings, however, the entire purpose was to bring Gettysburg National Military Park visitors downtown to support local businesses that were floundering. The 150th commemoration of the Battle of Gettysburg brought tens of thousands of visitors and economic opportunities. However, the seasonal nature of tourism creates hardship on the small business community. Future investment in existing businesses, improving the design of the gateways into Gettysburg, new attractions and upgrading the infrastructure and transportation options will draw more business to the area year round. MSG plays an important role in all of these initiatives as a coordinator, grant writer, and liaison to the Borough.
