Gettysburg Borough Council adopted Morelia, in the Mexican State of Michoacan, as a Sister City in 2004. The move was made upon recommendations from local Latinos who moved to Gettysburg and Adams County from the State of Michoacan to pursue new lives in this community. Our local Mexican population is looking to maintain family and community connections and educate others on their heritage, culture and life in their homeland. Morelia, originally settled in 1541, is located in central Mexico, southwest of Mexico City. It is home to a University and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Like Gettysburg, Morelia is working to preserve its architectural heritage.
