Gettysburg Borough and regional public safety agencies are aware of the threat to burn an American Flag in the Gettysburg National Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA currently being circulated on various social media platforms. All agencies involved in coordinating safety procedures for the residents and visitors of the area want to assure the public that these threats are known and appropriate measures are being put in place to manage any threat to persons and/or property. There are a collective of criminal intelligence sections evaluating the posts to obtain all possible information. Gettysburg Borough and our public safety partners want to assure those we protect that we are jointly and cooperatively working on this and are planning a measured response. The response will include a coordinated effort among federal, state, and local agencies. Chief Robert Glenny, Gettysburg Borough Police Chief said, “We want to assure those we serve that we are taking all precautions at our disposal to maintain the safety of all residents and visitors to the area as well as the protection of property to include businesses, homes, monuments, churches and other historical treasures located in the greater Gettysburg area”.
