Significant Severe Weather Damage Across Borough
Special Brush Pick-Up Scheduled

A severe thunderstorm ripped through Gettysburg Borough. Very high winds brought down power lines and tree limbs, disrupting electrical service to many properties across the municipality. As of 7:45 PM, Met-Ed was reporting 27 calls for service in Gettysburg Borough alone[1]. Traffic signals were also without power, forcing the Borough’s public works crews to use portable generators to temporarily keep them functioning until normal power can be brought back online.

Tree damage is significant throughout the Borough – with large limbs obstructing some roadways and sidewalks. Residents are asked to report any tree obstructions on roadways to the Public Works Department by calling (717) 334-4666. Property owners are responsible to clear obstructions from sidewalks. Public Works crews will be working throughout the night to clear streets of debris.

In response to the significant tree damage, Borough’s Public Works crews will be mobilizing a special brush pick-up the week of June 28, 2021, through July 2, 2021. Any resident and/or business with tree damage is encouraged to place brush at curbside for pick-up. Brush can also be delivered to the Public Works Building and placed in the outdoor brush pad, located at 457 East Middle Street.
