Wesley K. Heyser was elected to the Gettysburg Borough Council in November 2015. Wesley serves as the liaison to both the Gettysburg Borough Planning Commission and Gettysburg College. He has served as the Secretary of the Civil Service Commission since 2013, and continues to serve in that capacity.
A native of the Gettysburg area, Wesley graduated from Gettysburg Area High School, earned his B.A. in Political Science from Gettysburg College and earned his M.Ed. in Instructional Systems-Educational Technology from the Pennsylvania State University.
Professionally, Wesley has taught history, government and psychology in the Upper Adams School District since 2008. He presently teaches American History to sophomores at Biglerville High School. He concurrently worked as Seasonal Interpretive Ranger for the National Park Service at the Eisenhower National Historic Site from 2008-2015, predominately during the spring, summer and autumn.
In the community, Wesley’s most notable service has been as a third generation volunteer fireman. He was named Gettysburg Fire Department’s Fireman of the Year in 2006 and has consistently served the department for more than a decade. During that time he has answered at least 20% of the department’s calls for service each year, in total responding to more than 2,000 emergencies in his community. He served two year terms as both Captain (2008-2009) and Assistant Chief (2010-2011), and has served on a number of long range planning and apparatus purchasing committees. Wesley is National Pro-Board and/or IFSAC certified in a number of disciplines, including as a Fire Officer II. He is a qualified driver/operator of all department apparatus. He was responsible for securing a fiscal year 2013 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (federal) that brought more than $86,000 to Adams County fire departments for personnel accountability equipment.
Wesley serves as an advisor to the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity at Gettysburg College. He is a life member of the Philmont Staff Association, a life member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Upper Adams Fish & Game and a member of the Thaddeus Stevens Society.
