Gettysburg is the most famous small town in the United States.  The three day Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War and forever impacted the town, the surrounding area, and the nation.  President Abraham Lincoln delivered the shortest and most influential speech in US history during the dedication of the Soldiers National Cemetery on November 19, 1863.  The events associated with the Battle of Gettysburg have made this town one of the most visited places in the United States.

Gettysburg was established in 1786, and was a center of commerce and activity well before the Battle in 1863.  The Lutheran Seminary and Gettysburg College are historical educational institutions that predate the Battle, and are still active today.  Churches, stores, Gettysburg Hospital, the Library, Gettysburg National Military Park, and local and Adams County governments have long served the local populace, as well as those who travel here seeking an experience unavailable anywhere else.

As a Gettysburg native I am aware of the importance of the economic benefit of tourism to this small town and the vitality that these visitors bring.  I am also very aware of the need to consider and to involve local residents in addressing the needs of those who call Gettysburg home.  Gettysburg is a destination, but it is also a community made up of people who can get to know each other better and work toward common goals.  I will do my part to make this happen.

I look forward to serving the Gettysburg Community during my term as Mayor.  For both visitors and locals, if you talk, I will listen.  If we work together, Gettysburg can prosper.
