Interim Police Chief Hired for Gettysburg Borough
Gettysburg Borough Council voted to hire Carl A. Segatti as interim Chief of Police Monday night. Mr. Segatti will lead the police department until a permanent successor is appointed. Mr. Segatti most recently has been performing work for the Borough as its background investigator for new hires and performing internal affairs investigations if complaints have been filed against department employees.
Mr. Segatti comes to the Borough with over forty-four years of law enforcement experience, retiring from the Northern York County Regional Police Department in 2010 as its Chief of Police and Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure, he commanded a department with 50 sworn officers and initiated, implemented, and administered scores of programs and projects that improved the police department’s ability to deliver law enforcement services to more than 60,000 constituents in 8 municipalities comprising 150 square miles.
“Carl is the consummate law enforcement professional, with extensive experience in a large department and community. I and the Council have every confidence that Carl is the right person to lead this department while a national search for a permanent Chief of Police begins”, said Mayor Ted Streeter.
President of Council, Susan Naugle, will soon convene a search committee who will be tasked with conducting a national search for a permanent Police Chief.
“It is our hope that in additional to a seasoned law enforcement professional, our new Chief of Police would bring expertise in law enforcement that includes work in college and tourist towns”, said Susan Naugle, President of Council.
Since retirement, Mr. Segatti has worked as a consultant with many jurisdictions regarding plethora of law enforcement matters. Mr. Segatti will set his consulting business aside for the duration of his tenure with the Gettysburg Borough Police Department.
