Town Hall Meeting Planned in First Ward
Forum to Focus on Borough Initiatives, Budget, Public Comment

GETTYSBURG - First Ward council members in Gettysburg have planned a “Town Hall” meeting to promote citizen participation and transparency in local government. The meeting is scheduled Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Gettysburg Fire Department Community Room and is open to the public. Council Vice President Scot Pitzer and Councilman Wesley Heyser are co-hosting the meeting to address any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions from the public.

“The 1st Ward is the only precinct in Gettysburg that has hosted these meetings over the past four years, and I believe they are beneficial because of the direct feedback you receive from residents,” said Pitzer. “Our citizens appreciate the opportunity to have a conversation with their council members.”

Pitzer and Heyser intend to update the public on the progress of infrastructure projects being funded by the bond issue taken in 2016 and the progress of the LERTA initiative. They will also provide an overview of the municipality’s budget and discuss the staffing level of the police department. The remainder of the meeting is being devoted to public comment and questions.

Heyser commented that “the council is faced with difficult decisions related to critical borough services and the tax rates necessary to fund those services. Input from our residents and taxpayers is an important part of preparing to make those decisions during budget season.”

Pitzer was elected to Borough Council in 2013 and is employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and co-founded the Adams County Young Professionals. Heyser was elected to Borough Council in 2015, teaches at Biglerville High School, and is a volunteer firefighter.

The Gettysburg Fire Department is located at 35 North Stratton Street, Gettysburg and is handicap-accessible.
